7 Benefits of Writing your goals down

The most successful people in the world have a continuing habit of writing their goals down. Like on an actual piece of paper. Most people in this world do not write down their goals and we are guilty of trying to make a sticky note in our head but then life happens or ADHD kicks in. We forget or get sidetracked from what really is important to us. Researchers say also you are much more likely to accomplish goals by writing them. It may take about 30 minutes or less out of your day to write them down.  Something so small and little time could make your life more fulfilled and happier. So what’s your excuse?

So here are a couple benefits of writing them down:

  1.  Leaves your mind less cluttered and more focused. Sometimes our mind jumps around like crazy with all these mental notes we give it. But when we actually write something physically on a piece of paper, the mind doesn’t have to waist so much energy looking threw the stacks of mental notes and can have more energy for other things.
  2. Gives you a reason to start your day. I personally like to write my goals the night before so when I wake up the next morning my day is already mapped out into small tangible goals and gives me a more purposed day.
  3. Keeps you more organized. Writing your goals down naturally helps you become organized.
  4. Leaves you less stressed. Writing goals and then breaking them down into smaller daily, weekly goals helps destress the mind because it makes things closer to achieving.
  5. Helps clarify about what specifically is important to you and what you really want to achieve.
  6. Makes you feel better about getting things done. After you have accomplished something weather a big goal or small one, you feel so much better going on to the next day and writing a new one. You feel like your actually getting somewhere and getting closer to your end result.
  7. Helps remind you on a regular basis so that your days and weeks are focused on making baby steps towards the bigger picture. Having a habit of writing or reading your goals everyday subconsciously will make your day contribute in some way or another towards that goal weather you mean to or not.

Not writing your goals is hurting you more in the end than if you took 15 minutes out of your day to actually write them. I like to keep my daily and weekly goals in a journal which I keep by my bed. I put my monthly and yearly goals on a whiteboard on the wall where I can see them everyday. It has helped me tremendously achieve many things fast in a short amount of time.
